Comedian Jess Hilarious has finally addressed the months-long speculation surrounding her role on Power 105.1’s iconic morning radio show, The Breakfast Club. The show, which has long been a staple of the station’s lineup, features hosts Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy, who have cultivated a loyal following over the years with their former co-host Angela Yee. But since Yee’s departure to host her own radio show, The Breakfast Club has been struggling to find its footing. In a controversial move that puzzled some and pleased others, the show recruited Jess Hilarious as the second female to co-host, and listeners have not been shy about vocalizing her impact on the dynamic.
Her arrival was met with mixed reactions, with many wondering how the Wild ‘N Out star would mesh with the established format of the show. The chatter reached a fever pitch after Jess Hilarious, who had quickly become a fan favorite, shocked listeners when she went on maternity leave. This unexpected move sent the show into another period of uncertainty, leaving fans questioning the future of the show’s chemistry and Hilarious’ place within it.
During an impassioned live rant, Jess Hilarious acknowledged the growing tension between her and Loren Lorosa, a former TMZ correspondent who filled in during Jess Hilarious’ maternity leave. Hilarious claimed she had personally chosen Lorosa to temporarily step into the coveted role while she was away, with the eventual goal of giving Hilarious back her chair upon her return several months later.
Although Jess With The Mess (Her News Is Real!) was originally Hilarious’ signature pop culture segment, day by day, Lorosa became the go-to reporter, with many fans warming up to her professional and grounded approach. This shift in the show’s dynamic did not go unnoticed by listeners, as they increasingly looked to Lorosa as a stable presence. The evolving format did not fare well upon Hilarious’ return when fans began to flood The Breakfast Club comments section with opinions and preferences creating a viral rival between the two hosts.
While some listeners speculated there was ongoing tension behind the scenes due to moments when Hilarious wasn’t necessarily courteous to Lorosa, The Breakfast Club appeared to maintain a united front. However, the producers of the show were slow to make corrections to the format, further creating a divide between fans as they pointed out Lorosa was reporting during a segment confusingly titled Jess With The Mess, while Hilarious was noticeably absent or hosting the show through Zoom. In the live, Hilarious admitted she was frustrated with the passive aggressive changes.
“It’s [Loren’s] segment,” Hilarious declared, adding, “I went to the person who does the intros, the sounds, and ****. I went to Taylor. ‘Yo, Taylor, make Loren her intro. Take Jess With The Mess off that ***.’”
Hilarious continued, “[Taylor] says, ‘Things can’t just change like that.’ I’m like, ‘Why the **** not? Why not? Y’all changing everything else, and I’m the only one that don’t know. My goofy *** don’t know nothing.’” It was a pointed remark that seemed to imply Hilarious was left in the dark about the transition, raising questions about how Lorosa’s role was being integrated into the show.
“I don’t have no reason to [sic] hate on that girl. I don’t. No, I didn’t like her when I came back because I’m like alright what’s going on? What’s going on? She knew it, we had a conversation because the anger was misplaced. No, it ain’t even you that I don’t like I’m realizing, it’s the way these ****** is doing **** up here that I don’t like.”
