Janelle Monáe is doing something to make sure that Atlanta, Georgia families have a free hot meal this coming Sunday, April 26.
The Atlanta native is teaming up with Councilman Andre Dickens, Project Isaiah, Wondaland Arts Society, Hot 107.9, and Gate Gourmet to feed thousands of families to alleviate some of the financial burden people are facing amid public health concerns.
“It’s been such a giving place and a place that I just instantly wanted to give back to,” Monáe told local news.
The meals, crafted by Gate Gourmet, will be handed out via drive-thru or walk-up between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Meal recipients must wear protective gear, such as gloves and face masks, and practice social distancing guidelines.
An online portal to register for the event reveals that the #WondaLunch On Us is now filled to capacity. However, the organizers are working on additional relief efforts.
“The beautiful thing about all of this is that we get an opportunity to not only show up for our community, but we get the opportunity to save 500 workers’ jobs through Project Isaiah and Gate Gourmet,” Monáe continued. “They will all stay employed.”
