Vampire movies come a dime a dozen, but it’s very rare when these blood-thirsty pics land an alluring cast that just makes you want to tap in because you know it’s going to hit different. This is exactly the feeling that Netflix’s latest theatrical entry captures.
The red letter “N” company released the official trailer for Day Shift, a debut screenplay penned by scribe Tyler Tice and action horror virtuoso Shay Hatten, known for the John Wick and Army of the Dead films.
From the jump, the trailer opens to the beautiful golden and blue hues of Southern California’s seemingly peaceful landscape. But, just under the panoramic views of skyscrapers, palm trees, and its mountainous perimeter lies a dubious melting pot of gnarly vampires disguised as everyday people.
Director J.J. Perry sets the atmosphere, with the lead star Jamie Foxx appearing as an earnest pool cleaner who quickly transforms into an expert vampire assassin with a mean killing technique. For the San Fernando Valley father, hunting vampires is just a means to an end. Each tooth he extracts from a vampire killing equates to a wad of money.
There’s a twist, however, because technically he’s intruding on an entire international union of vampire killers, an organization that gives him one more chance to make a good impression at the behest of his good vampire hunting buddy played by head-turner Snoop Dogg. When a novice (Dave Franco) somehow gets submerged into the underworld of capitalism, Jamie is tasked with mentoring him on his training day.
Megan Good (Harlem), Steve Howey (Shameless), Scott Adkins (IP Man 4: The Finale), and Zion Broadnax (Abbott Elementary) make up the entertaining cast. A vision of Impossible Dream Entertainment and 87Eleven Entertainment, the film is executive produced by Foxx, Peter Baxter, Datari Turner, Alex Young, and Charles J.D. Schlissel.
Day Shift bites into the streamer Netflix on Aug. 12, 2022. Watch the official trailer below:
