A young life is gone too soon. A representative of the Bust Down actor, Jak Knight, confirmed his passing via a statement made Thursday on the behalf of his family. Details of his death have not been disclosed at the time of this writing. He was 28 years old.
Knight was a triple threat talent who had a score of credits to his name as an actor, writer, and producer. He was best known for voiceover acting. One of his breakout roles was the Netflix animated series Big Mouth where he voiced the character DeVon from 2017 to 2021, alongside fellow actors Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, and Jorden Peele.
He also offered his voice for two episodes of the Fox animated series American Dad! in 2021. That same year, Knight would land a reoccurring role on HBO’s reality TV series Pause with Sam Jay, a show he also co-executive produced.
However, the Peacock original series Bust Down is the first scripted television sitcom in which Knight stepped out of his voiceover persona to become an onscreen lead character. Debuting in early 2022, Knight shared the screen with Chris Redd, Langston Kerman, and Sam Jay, who all played casino employees looking for a way out of their dead-end jobs.
A statement from Peacock reads, “We are devastated by the passing of Jak Knight. He was a brilliant comedian, visionary and artist and we were all lucky to experience his greatness. Our hearts are with Jak’s family, friends and community during this heartbreaking time.”
Before Knight’s passing, he wrapped production on Chelsea Peretti’s directorial debut, First Time Female Director. Starring Peretti, Megan Mullally, Amy Poehler, and Max Greenfield, the film follows a newly minted female director as she attempts to fill the shoes of a male predecessor at a Glendale, CA theater.
Beyond his acting credits, Knight made a mark as a stand-up comedian and writer for several series, including Lucas Bros Moving Co, Black-ish, and the Bill Burr anthology series Immoral Compass.
Rest in Peace and condolences to his family and friends.
