The box office turnout pales in comparison to its 2008 predecessor, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull, helmed under Paramount Pictures and directed by Steven Spielberg, which had a more than decent performance with a $100M domestic opening. In turn, Dial of Destiny commanded a nearly $300M budget to revive the billion-dollar franchise with Ford, now an impressive 80-year-old icon, as he again embarks on a mission to change the course of history through the retrieval of a historic artifact. James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari) directs the Walt Disney Studios pic, starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Antonio Banderas (Uncharted), Karen Allen (Things Heard & Seen), John Rhys-Davies (Kingslayer), and Shaunette Renée Willson (Black Panther).
