Breaking: Donald Trump will remain in office after being acquitted of both articles of impeachment, charging him with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Senate voted on his acquittal Wednesday.
Trump was on trial for using quid pro quo tactics by withholding military aid to force Ukraine to dig up information on Trump’s political opponent, Joe Biden.
Trump is the third president to be impeached.

The news of his acquittal comes on the heels of his State of the Union address he made on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
In the address, Trump spoke about how strong the economy has become under his presidency.
“Jobs are booming,” Trump said in his address. “Incomes are soaring. Poverty is plummeting. Crime is falling. Confidence is surging. And our country is thriving and highly respected again.”
In an effort to set the foundation for a 2020 re-election, he also talked about the completion of building 100 miles of wall along the US-Mexico border, completing trade deals and his attempts to dismantle ObamaCare.
The acquittal seems to be a means of compromise in an attempt to appease both the left and right.
By impeaching Trump, it satisfies the Democratic sector. But, not completely kicking Trump out of office is satisfactory for the Republican party.
Disruption and divisiveness can ideally be avoided by straddling the fence and appeasing both sides enough to settle them.
It’s a strategically smart, but cowardly way of doing politics. It also sends the message that a leader in power will not be held accountable for abusing that power.
Then, there’s the question about the elections. Is it now acceptable to do whatever it takes to win, even if that means compromising the integrity of the role that these politicians are pursuing? By any means necessary, even if it causes suffering, embarrassment or harassment of others?
