Before Kim Kardashian and Ray J broke the Internet with their modest sex tape, there was an even more scintillating scandal that entertained the masses. Baywatch’s very own Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee had undeniable chemistry, leading to a steamy love affair in the 1990s.
The legend goes that the two married after just fours days of meeting. During the honeymoon phase, Pam and Tommy thought it would be a great idea to film their sexual escapades on an infamous vacation they took in 1995. Tommy safely secured the tape in his home right before hiring contractors to do work around his compound.
Lo and behold, one of the devious employees discovered the sex tape and sold it to an Internet distribution company. The couple sued the company, which settled, paid them off, and continued to offer the content to viewers for a subscription fee. Pam and Tommy became even more popular, as a result.
Years later, entertainers have used the unintentional business model to boost their careers, even reaching the stratosphere of reality television (Mimi Faust and Nikko London) and hip hop (Stevie J and Eve). Now, Hulu is recalling the memory of Pam and Tommy’s exploitive fumble in a new original eight-episode series called Pam & Tommy.
Lily James will star as the blonde tressed bombshell and Sebastian Stan will play Tommy Lee. Adding to the cast is Seth Rogen, Iker Amaya, Mike Seely, and Nick Offerman.
The script was written by Robert Siegel, who is also the showrunner, Amanda Chicago Lewis, and D.V. DeVincentis.
The greatest love story ever sold premieres on the streaming network Feb. 2.
