Halle Berry’s hard work as the resilient MMA fighter Jackie Justice has paid off. The Oscar winner has signed a multi-picture deal with Netflix on the hinge of her latest film Bruised landing on their Top 10 Global film list, entering the No. 2 spot.
In the U.S., the pic nabbed the No. 1 spot, along with grabbing the top position in 21 total countries. For the first five days since its Thanksgiving Eve release, Bruised obtained a watch time for 47.7 million hours.
“My directorial debut, ‘Bruised,’ was a labor of love and I knew that Scott [Stuber] and Ted [Sarandos] would treat it with great care,” said Berry. “The Netflix team has not only been collaborative and creative, but extremely passionate and a delight to work with. I am beyond grateful for the partnership and look forward to telling more stories together.”
It’s a great feat for the actress-turned-director, who had received heavy criticism from so-called professional critics who deemed the pic cliche and out of Berry’s league. Apparently, the consumer disagrees and once again Berry wins as the people’s champ.
Next up Berry’s schedule are the two films, The Mothership and Moonfall. Berry is Sara Morse in director Matt Charman’s The Mothership, a sci-fi drama about the extraterrestrial and the disapperance of her husband. Directed by Roland Emmerich, Berry plays Jo Fowler in Moonfall, a sci-fi adventure about the moon being knocked out of its orbit and sent toward earth.
