Entrepreneur and salon owner Destiny Harrison was gunned down 12 days after being robbed and attacked inside of her Madam D Beauty Bar in Baltimore. When boxer Gervonta Davis learned of Harrison’s story he offered to cover her funeral expenses.
“I’m just hearing about this sadness,” Davis said on Twitter. “Prayers and love to her family. If I can do anything like pay for the funeral or anything like that…reach out!”
Davis announced On his Instagram story that the funeral was paid for, according to WJZ Baltimore.
A candlelight vigil was held for the 21-year-old on Thursday (Dec. 26).
Harrison was at her place of business when two burglars broke in stealing an estimated $3,000 in hair bundles.
The mother of a newborn, Harrison recognized one of the thieves from the neighborhood and attempted to retrieve her inventory back but was met with violence as the burglars physically assaulted her.
The hair salon owner reported the incident to police. She told the authorities that she was “scared for [her] life and business.”
Police arrested the suspects who were charged with theft, burglary and assault. Twelve days later, Harrison was found with a gunshot wound to her head.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The murderer has yet to be caught and brought to justice.
“Somebody gotta know something. Please come forward,” Harrison’s uncle Dewine McQueen told media. “We need to get these demonic souls here. They need to pay for their crime. There’s no doubt about that, in the name of Jesus, there’s no doubt.”
Harrison’s young daughter has been placed in the care of her grandmother.
“Destiny loved her daughter, that was the light of her life. That was probably the most pivotal moment in her life, was her daughter,” Harrison’s mother said. “My baby is still with me. I still feel her all around. We’ve got her daughter, she’s definitely going to live through me and her daughter’s going to know her mother.”
For those wanting to help or donate, the family has set up a GoFundMe page.
Gervonta Davis, also known as Tank, recently won a second weight division belt in a 12-round fight that ended in the knockout of boxing opponent Yuriorkis Gamboa.
