Game Of Rap Thrones: Missy Elliott Receives Long Overdue Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

In a long overdue recognition of Missy Elliott’s massive impact on music and hip hop culture, the “WTF (Where They From)” artist was honored with her very own Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Nov. 8. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce dedicated the 2,708th star to Elliott for her achievements in the category of recording.

“Missy Elliott has broken through the barriers of the male-dominated Hip Hop world, and music industry as a whole, as she has led the way for many women who have followed in her footsteps,” said a statement from Ana Martinez, Hollywood Walk of Fame Producer. “She continues to break barriers year after year and we’re thrilled to be able to honor her on the Walk of Fame.”

The crowded event that took place at the Amoeba Records in Hollywood included fellow music peers Lizzo, Ciara, and Mona Scott-Young. Managed by Scott-Young’s music management company Violator throughout her career, Elliott has recently worked with Lizzo on the single “Tempo” and has worked with Ciara several times on songs such as, “One, Two Step,” “Lose Control,” “Level Up (Remix),” and “Work,” for instance.

The world was first introduced to Elliott with her platinum-certified debut album Supa Dupa Fly in 1997. From there, Elliott would go on to create six studio albums that all obtained the RIAA platinum status, and opened the doors for her to win five Grammy awards.

She also made an imprint on the industry as one-third of the music powerhouse consisting of mega-producer Timbaland and R&B legend Aaliyah, releasing hit singles, such as “Hot Like Fire” and “One In A Million.”

Recently, Elliott has jumped head first into the world of directing, winning “Director of the Year” at the 2021 BET Awards for City Girls video “Twerkulator.” Elliott has continued to be one of the premiere female producers, who is often underrated, but is continuously acknowledged by fans and in the world of hip hop.
