Five people have been arrested in connection to the brutal murder of Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke. The Los Angeles Police Department reported on Thursday (July 9) that two teen boys and three adult men were taken into custody in the suspected gang-related killing of Pop Smoke, born Bashar Jackson, at a Hollywood Hills home on February 19. Further details were not given.
The revelation comes on the heels of the release of Pop Smoke’s posthumous album Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon, executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Pop Smoke rose to fame as an up-and-coming drill artist with his summer anthem “Welcome To The Party.”
Pop Smoke was abruptly taken away from the hip hop world when masked shooters entered a Hollywood Hills home he was renting.
Although several reports suggested that the incident was a home invasion, none of the rapper’s belongings were documented to be stolen. Pop Smoke was also the only person to be killed in the incident, despite others being in the house with him.
He was only 20 years old when he was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Listen to his music below:
