The highly anticipated Mary J. Blige led film Body Cam released an extended preview just a week after dropping its first trailer.
The What’s the 411 singer plays a cop that witnesses an unexplainable, mysterious force that relentlessly pursues police in the streets.
When first made known to the public, the Paramount Pictures film appeared to be in alignment with the recent headlines regarding police shootings and the contentious disconnect between police and the black community. However, the trailer reveals a slight edge to the storyline.
Blige, who plays Renee Lomito-Smith, loses her partner to a mysterious entity, but she is the only person who can see the supernatural force on her body cam. This leads her on an investigation to discover the entity behind various attacks on police.
The horror film starring Blige, Nat Wolff (Semper Fi), Anika Noni Rose (Little Fires Everywhere) and David Zayas (Blue Bloods) is directed by rising star Malik Vitthal (Imperial Dreams). Scribes Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact) and Richmond Riedel (Target Practice) penned the story.
Blige has established a solid acting portfolio over the years. Her resume includes Prison Song, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Rock of Ages, Betty and Coretta, and the 2017 Oscar-nominated Netflix movie Mudbound.
Body Cam, which was originally supposed to be released in theaters, has been released digitally due to the pandemic and will be rentable via On-Demand on June 15th.
