Even Kodak Black Deserves To Be Treated Like A Human

You may or may not like him. Admittedly, he’s done some crazy things. But, even Kodak Black deserves to be treated humanely.

News broke this weekend that the Florida rapper was severely beaten by seven guards at the high security Big Sandy U.S. Penitentiary in Inez, Kentucky.

Kodak’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, learned of the incident via other inmates at the facility.

“We just heard from fellow inmates at Max. Penitentiary Big Sandy KY. In regards to @kodakblack treatment. He couldn’t call himself as he is not allowed phone or visitation for 6 months as punishment for the incident in Miami, even though that has been the case since September, they refuse to give him credit for that time. Friday night he was badly beaten while in cuffs, by 7 guards at Big Sandy KY. They struck him in the head repeatedly with a metal object, Then after one of the guards flicked his genitals and said ‘you’re not so gangster now, you’re gonna need bigger balls to survive‘”.

Kodak’s lawyer plans to seek a full investigation by the Department of Justice and FBI.

Since Kodak has been serving time, he has been subject to unfair treatment that has included the barring of visitation rights and commissary, extended periods of time in solitary confinement and even claims of being drugged.

In fact, the rapper was moved from a Florida prison to Kentucky after he complained of mistreatment. It seems, however, that the treatment is even worse at the new prison.

Kodak Black’s situation is an ugly reality of prison. People are treated inhumanely, like animals, often having to do without essential necessities and endure brutal attacks from fellow inmates and prison guards. A lot of people shrug these issues off because they feel that criminals deserve this type of treatment.

However, what about the inmates who didn’t harm anyone when they were free? But, they’re in prison for weapon or drug charges. What about the wrongly accused who have to go through unnecessary adversity all because no one cares how inmates are treated? Isn’t it better to have a prison system that rehabs and reforms people? Not imposes the same dysfunctional patterns of conventional slavery.

A better focus would be educational opportunities, therapeutic counseling, religious and spiritual guidance, health and physical well-being, and workforce training and employment.

If some of these inmates have to be acclimated again to society one day, how about the prison ensure they are fit human beings upon their release…

So what, Kodak Black has said controversial things and flexed the wrong message for the ‘gram, he still deserves to be treated like a human being with flesh and blood. Besides, he’s in prison for allegedly buying guns while on probation. Not raping children, killing men, or ripping off white collar America.

Don’t try to break him. Give the kid a fucking break.

If you or someone you know is dealing with mistreatment while incarcerated, there are a few things you can do. Read this lawyer’s blog to learn how to file a CRIPA complaint, a civil rights suit, and contact a civil rights attorney.
