‘Emergency’ Taps On Scary Scenario, Similar To The Case Of Two Women Left For Dead In Front Of Hospitals [Trailer]

From the writer K.D. Davila comes the eery tale called Emergency. Imagine being a Black or Brown male with an unconscious body of a white female laying in the middle of your living room.

The scary scenario comes to life for college students Sean (RJ Cyler), Kunie (Donald Elise Watkins), and Carlos (Sebastian Chacon) who thought that they would have a legendary night of partying, but instead are faced with the decision to either call the police or take matters into their own hands. Carey Williams directs the Amazon Prime picture.

Emergency is eerily close to the true life story of Christy Giles, 24, and Hilda Cabrales Arzola, 26, who were partying with a group of men working in the entertainment industry when they were drugged and left for dead in front of two separate Southern California hospitals. However, in this case, the men involved, who happen to be white, are suspected of foul play due to date rape drugs turning up in the autopsies and one of the men, David Pearce, having a history of sexually assaulting women.

The film shows the flip side of this story with the males involved appearing to be innocent and caught up at a morality crossroad made complicated by the sensitivities of racial bias as it pertains to the Black community’s relationship with police.

Emergency releases in select theaters on May 20, followed by a May 27 release on Amazon’s Prime Video. Check out the trailer below.
