Elon Musk’s plan to debut his new bulletproof Tesla vehicle went awry at the Tesla Design Studio in Hawthorne, CA on Friday.
The Tesla Cybertruck debuted to smoke, fire and flashing lights. The gray and black stainless steel vehicle had an odd shape design similar to a truck and tank fusion.
The billionaire attempted to demonstrate the durability and toughness of the vehicle by having designer Franz von Holzhausen slam a sledgehammer into a regular vehicle door, then comparing the same action on the Cybertruck. The Cybertruck didn’t have so much as a scratch after the impact.
Things took a downturn when Musk decided that Holzhausen should throw metal balls at the bulletproof glass windows.
“It is literally bulletproof to a 9mm handgun,” Musk said to the audience. “That’s how strong it is. So, it’s ultra hard…”
Holzhausen threw the metal ball as hard as he could, damaging the armor glass. They attempted the same thing on the rear window, but it shattered, too.
Musk continued to give the demo, but it was very clear that Tesla had a lot of work to do. After the demo started circulating online, Tesla’s shares fell by 4.1% or 14.54 USD on Friday, going from 354.83 to 340.15 per share.
