Editorial: Why Are So Many People Ready To Hate On DaBaby And DaniLeigh?

Hip hop news is getting more convoluted everyday. From the toxic nitpicking of Megan Thee Stallion’s ability to have genuine relationships to the perplexing support of hypocritical values promoted by damaged rappers like YFN Lucci, it’s hard to tell whether 2020 was about a reawakening for hip hop — as issues surrounding the black community made headlines — or if 2020 was just another year for hip hop to selfishly use as a gimmick to support the age-old addiction to more jewelry, more cars and more women.

Social media doesn’t make the situation any better. In fact, it provides a first-class, hand-delivered experience for the debauchery, and many times, the rumors that people runoff with are just another opportunity to hate for no reason (that’s if the rumor is true in the first place).

A great example of this is the recent rumor that singer DaniLeigh gifted her current boyfriend, rapper DaBaby, with two expensive cars for his birthday as he celebrated turning 29 years old. A video showed DaBaby receiving the two vehicles with his team, family and his girlfriend DaniLeigh surrounding him.

Once the footage released on social media, people’s comments were not only reckless, but also, come to find out, based on false rumors crafted by hating gossip blogs with nothing better to do. It wouldn’t be long before DaBaby clarified on Instagram that the vehicles were gifts from his team — not DaniLeigh.

But, are the naysayers and critics virtuous enough to come to terms with their overly critical insults and publicly apologize on their platforms? Of course not. Instead, the story and rumor is deaded and the haters go silent as they wait for their next victims.

From DaniLeigh’s laugh to the longevity of her relationship with DaBaby, the venom is endless. Many critics are crossing their fingers hoping that the relationship will not last. While others are disgruntled with the happiness of the always smiling couple.

If it makes the average hater feel better, just know that anything that could happen to you could happen to them — besides they are human.

I’m not suggesting that the rumor mill die completely or news stories surrounding celebrities and public personas always be positive, but if you’re going to report and gossip about these people who voluntarily put their lives on the forefront for all to judge, at the very least, let the information be based on facts.

Again, DaniLeigh didn’t purchase DaBaby vehicles for his birthday, but what she did do was purchase her family a home in the Dominican Republic. In the words of Martin Lawrence — “Run and tell that.”
