Eating Fast Food Or “Brown Food” Is Killing More People Than Smoking

Popeye’s had an amazing 2019 with its highly demanded chicken sandwich. The marketing strategy certainly inspired the entire fast food industry to rejuvenate their menus and ignite what has become the fast food wars on social media platforms, such as Twitter.

McDonald’s is now offering their version of the chicken sandwich, Burger King introduced its plant-based Impossible Burger, and Taco Bell brought back its rolled tacos. Fast food options are out of control.

In the state of Texas, high obesity rates are attributed to having only 5.5 gyms available per capita of 100,000 people. Yet, Texas has 7.8 fast food restaurants per gym.

The convenience of hot meals on the go is literally killing people as their diets cause poor health. The problem is that people are consuming “brown food”, food that tends to be brown and contains no nutritional value. “Brown food” is defined as fried, processed, starchy, sugary, and trans fat foods.

“Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure,” states the Center for Disease Control. “This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day.”

A study conducted earlier this year found that more than 11 million people die around the world every year from poor diet-related illnesses, including cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

“A small number of dietary risks had a large impact on health outcomes,” according to the study. “In 2017, more than half of diet-related deaths were attributable to high intake of sodium, low intake of whole grains, and low intake of fruits among young adults aged 25-50 years old.”

A healthy diet and regular exercise can reduce or eliminate the risk of illness and premature death. Instead of opting for “brown foods”, people should choose unprocessed, colorful foods such as fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. Higher intake of water over sugary drinks can reduce the chances of diabetes and the size of a person’s midsection.

The benefits of a healthier lifestyle lead to a clearer mentality, active sex, better sleep, and more energy.

Some of the wealthiest people wake up early to exercise. The list includes actor Dwayne Johnson, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, and former First Lady Michelle Obama. While exercise helps to eliminate excess calories and reshape the body, diet is more important to internal health.

The diet can impact cognitive sharpness, brain development and even, mental health, including depression and anxiety.

If fast food is a must-have, then balance and moderation is key. Instead of fast food everyday for every meal, try one day out of the week. Use the remaining days for cooking at home or going to restaurants with a bigger variety of food options.
