Drip Theft: Diamond Worth $1.85 Million Stolen At Jewelry Trade Show

A 50-carat diamond worth 200 million yen ($1.85 million) was allegedly stolen from a jewelry trade show in Yokohama near Tokyo.

According to Japanese police, the diamond was in the glass showcase up until 5 PM on Thursday. During the last hour of the international trade show, between 5 PM and 6 PM, the glass showcase appeared to be unlocked and the diamond was nowhere to be found.

“The diamond stolen on Thursday was valued at 200 million yen. We believe it was stolen from a display case,” police told media.

A police investigation is currently in place to locate the diamond and thief. The diamond was part of an exhibit hosted by a company in Saitama and was the only piece of jewelry missing.

The three-day exhibit, which contained about 410 jewelry shops and 10,000 visitors, was crowded with people at the time the diamond went missing.

Surveillance cameras show one man near the glass showcase reaching toward the expensive diamond during the time range, but no one has been identified as a suspect or arrested.
