At the start of 2022, take the time for self-care. First, get the edge off. Otherwise, someone at the airport, gas station, or in your home may be the victim of your displaced emotions. For those who prefer peaceful ways to release built up tension, start a daily journal that chronicles your inner thoughts and feelings or begin a therapy plan. For those who need a more aggressive option, take a trip to a rage room, sign up for a physically challenging adventure, such as boxing, MMA, or self-defense, or chop wood (we’re serious).
Second, go DOLO. How long has it been since you went on a trip? Not with your family that drive your nerves or that nagging partner that’s not happy with anything, but just you for at least one full day (not including travel time)? It doesn’t have to be another country or some extravagant cruise, a staycation can do a lot for your mind, body, and soul.

Third, tap into your spiritual side. Whatever you believe in, it’s time to consult the higher guide that leads you. Sometimes, people are so busy that they don’t have time for the most important things. Whether you’re a full-blown southern Christian or a West Coast hippie Atheist, take the time to center yourself and focus on what you feel in your spirit. Are you happy or hurting, or feel like there’s something missing? You might be self-medicating that pain with obsessive and addictive behaviors that are ultimately harmful to yourself. Stop, and assess.
Now, it’s time to prioritize your goals. If you’re an alpha female or male with an A-type personality, you probably already have a goal list for today, the next week, the year 2022, five years, and 10 years. Then, there are those who love spontaneity and plan when the hour comes. However, there’s nothing wrong with refreshing those long and short-term lists.
Goals should be updated as you live life and tackle the tasks that help complete the goal. Another thing, the minuscule, everyday tasks can overwhelm goals that may be harder to accomplish but have a bigger return or reward, such as going back to school or moving to a new city for a career opportunity. Start the new year by putting those goals at the top of the list and do something everyday to work towards them.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself is exit toxic situations and relationships. This year, love from a distance, or learn the gift in goodbye. But don’t stand for verbal or physical abuse, or a person devaluing you, whether it’s a supervisor at your job, a friend, or a family member. Point, blank, and a period.
Then, you can do all the other cliche self-care things. Workout, eat healthy, and get plenty of beauty rest. All of these things are important because a healthy you makes the world one more person better. Happy 2022!
