Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka will be at the center of a docuseries recently picked up on streaming platform Netflix.
The docuseries will show the Japanese born tennis player’s journey to making history as the first player of Asian descent to win two back-to-back Grand Slams, ranking No. 1 in singles by the Women’s Tennis Association.
The series follows the tennis star as she trains for the 2020 Olympics to take place in Tokyo and travels back to her childhood home country Japan to discover her roots.
Her experiences at the US Open in 2019 and Grand Slam tournaments will be in the documentary, as well.
“To be able to tell my story and let people in during this big year, working with a team that really understands me, has been a rewarding experience,” said Osaka in a statement. “It won’t look like a traditional sports documentary, and I’m so excited to share it with everyone.”
The untitled docuseries is directed by Sundance Film Festival winner and SXSW Film nominee Garrett Bradley.
The Netflix series is produced by Film 45 in partnership with LeBron James’ Uninterrupted, an initiative that explores athletes beyond the sports they play.
A release date has not been announced.
