Former NBA point guard Delonte West needs help. The 37-year-old was recently photographed holding a cardboard sign asking for help at a busy Dallas intersection.
Someone by the name of @CallTcooks posted the photo on Twitter with the caption, “Delonte west really out here in north dallas smh.”
He later posted, “Not here to promote anything just want to find ways to help him out! If you know of any please hit me up.”
Another Twitter user claimed that she saw West at the intersection, as well. “Just saw Delonte West and gave him some money.”
Since the photo went viral, fans have questioned why the NBA has been passive about helping West. Earlier in the year, it was revealed that teammates, coaches and executives in the NBA have attempted to assist West to no avail. West would agree to get help only to change his mind later.
The last time news broke on West, it was regarding an assault that took place in January. Early in the morning, West was spotted in a physical confrontation on a busy street. Police that arrived to the scene would place him in handcuffs before releasing him.
West had a promising basketball career as a player from 2004 through 2012. The most he ever made in the NBA was between 2008 and 2010 where he would earn a salary of more than $8 million as a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also played for the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, earning nearly $16 million over the span of his career.
In a 2014 Vice Sports documentary, West spoke about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It affected his self-esteem, ability to function off the court and his personal relationships. Hopefully, he will be able to receive the professional help he needs.
