Show us the money! Courtney Kemp, the creator and showrunner of Starz franchise series ‘Power,’ signed an overall deal with the Hollywood-based studio Netflix, and we hear it’s in the multi-millions. The deal ignites a four-year term that will see Kemp producing new projects, including a possible new series, for the streaming platform, according to Deadline.
“I am incredibly excited to join the Netflix family, and to continue to develop the kind of entertainment that End of Episode is known for – diverse, multilingual, water-cooler, social-media fueled series that pack a serious punch,” Kemp said.
Kemp previously had a multi-year, overall deal with Lionsgate and Starz, where she and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson produced Power in 2014. Since then, she has seen incredible success, increasing the series into an entire Power universe, also known as “Powerverse,” that include several series based on original characters in the franchise.
Her move to the streaming giant comes at a great time for Netflix as the company prepares to rejuvenate its business and mitigate its slowing subscriber growth rate with more animated kid programs and new video game offerings. Just recently, Avi Issacharoff and Lior Raz, co-creators of Fauda and Hit & Run, resigned an overall deal with the streamer in a chess move to draw more audiences. Kemp’s powerful reputation to create shows that draw audiences will certainly assist with adding more subscribers.
