The Comic-Con Museum celebrates the 80-year legacy of Wonder Woman with the induction of the DC Comics character into the Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame. The virtual event, which occurred on Thursday (Oct. 21), is available for viewing on YouTube.
“The virtual event will be chock-full of all the things that make Wonder Woman the fan-favorite icon she is,” said David Glanzer, spokesperson for San Diego Comic Convention. “The induction is also a celebration featuring some very special guests, a look at her history, and some wonderfully emotional remembrances.”
Created by Charles Moulton and Harry G. Peter during WWII, Wonder Woman first appeared in the All Star Comics #8 on Oct. 21, 1941. The Amazonian character represented female empowerment and over time, embodied the ideas of feminism. Wonder Woman joins an elite list of iconic characters featured at the Museum, including fellow DC peer Batman and the video game legend Pac Man.
The new Comic-Con Museum is located at San Diego’s Balboa Park and is currently being renovated. One unique aspect of the Museum is that everything from education programming to exhibits are virtually accessible from anywhere in the world. The new renovations to the 6,000 square foot space will include an Education Center, four flexible galleries, multiple levels utilized for gaming, special events, and Museum exploration.
Home to the annual Comic-Con convention, the San Diego Convention Center (SDCC) is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation organized for charitable purposes and dedicated to creating the general public’s awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms, including participation in and support of public presentations, conventions, exhibits, museums and other public outreach activities which celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture.
