Colin Kaepernick’s new Nike shoe collaboration hit the market and sold out on the same day.
The Nike Air Force 1 ’07 went on sale online the day before Christmas Eve and sold out within hours of being released, according to Forbes.
Some sources are reporting that the shoe can be found in some brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S. and for resale at higher prices, but it might be a treasure hunt to actually secure a pair.
There was high anticipation for the shoe, which featured Kaepernick’s face on the back and the date he kneeled during the NFL’s National Anthem, “08 14 16”. The shoe retails at $110.
Nike has collaborated with the allegedly blackballed quarterback before when they released a jersey in his honor earlier in 2019. The football jersey sold out just as quickly as the shoes.
The top selling athletic apparel and shoe company also did an ad campaign with the former San Francisco 49ers in 2018 that drew the criticism of conservatives.
Kaepernick took a stand for social justice in an act of boldness when he kneeled during the National Anthem to protest racism and police brutality in 2016. Since then, it has been challenging for the football player to find a NFL team.
After three years, the NFL scheduled a workout for Kaepernick at the Atlanta Falcons sports facility in November. Kaepernick and his representatives believed that the NFL wasn’t being transparent and moved the workout to another location at the last minute.
The move didn’t go over so well with many NFL scouts with only seven teams showing up to the new location. He has yet to find a team to this day.
