Cole Bennett Directs Jack Black In “Peaches” Music Video For ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

An electrifying voice grinds over a sultry piano melody, all a solo music project of the eccentric Jack Black.  Cole Bennett of Lyrical Lemonade directs the “Peaches” music video that coincides with the theatrical release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

In the film, Jack Black offers his voice up for the role of antagonist Bowser.  That same gruff voice pinged with anger and pain is the serenade of the epic love song for Princess Peach, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy (The Menu) in the Universal Pictures, Nintendo, and Illumination Entertainment production.

Released two days after the film’s theatrical premiere, the music video has gained traction on YouTube, amassing more than three million views while trending at No. 4 in the music category, at the time of this writing.

“Peaches” is written by Jack Black, Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond, and John Spiker, who is the actual pianist.  The writing credits add to the comedic appeal of the song, given that most of the lyrics consist of a chant of the single word peaches.

Bennett directed and edited the video, while Franklin Ricart is director of photography and Cody Fusina is production designer.  “Peaches” is executive produced by Jake Milllan and co-produced by J-T Ladt.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, starring the voices of Chris Pratt (Jurassic World: Dominion) as Mario and Charlie Day (The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part) as Luigi, premiered in theaters on April 5.
