Chicago-based music artist Tino Ojeda’s living is not in vain. In fact, as the Worship Pastor of Emmanuel Bible Church, he serves a diverse community with bilingual music under the sole purpose of supporting community and fellowship. His latest single, “Almighty God,” is also being released in Spanish with the title “Poderoso Dios.” The two singles are part of the rollout of Ojeda’s self-titled album, released Sept. 24.
“The song reminds us that even when everything is hopeless and dark, and I fall short, God is Almighty, is there, able and willing to help me in my greatest need,” said Ojeda of the slow-tempo worship song.
“Almighty God” combines elements of guitar, keyboard, and drums to produce a musical creation that is a battlecry for those wishing to connect to a greater force. Uniquely human and authentic, “Almighty God” in no way proclaims perfection of man, but instead acknowledges the shortcomings of being human. Life’s pressures subsides with every word, while simultaneously solidifying the calm that accompanies total surrender.
Ojeda sings, “In my greatest need, you are there / When I’ve lost all hope, you are there / Almighty God. Though I stumble and I falter in my faith / Tune my heart to sing the song of endless praise.”
The self-titled EP is produced by David Walker. Backing instrumental comes from Daniel Rainwater on guitar, Zach Smith on bass, Ryan Siders on drums, and Aaron Keyes on piano. In addition to vocals, Ojeda covers harmonica, piano, and guitar.
Ojeda’s calling to be a bilingual Christian artist stems from his experiences growing up. He would translate English news in Spanish for his grandmother, which would eventually leave a lasting impression on him. The cover of his album showcases a variety of bowties, an ode to news anchor Fahey Flynn — his grandmother’s preferred reporter, who would wear a bowtie while reporting.
“I wear a bowtie because there was a bowtie-wearing news reporter in Chicago when I was a boy,” said Ojeda. “My Spanish-speaking grandmother would ask me to translate the news to her (this was before Telemundo), but she only wanted to hear from Fahey Flynn who, in her estimation, was the most honest source. Years later, I realized the importance of integrity, and in this world filled with lies, the world needs to hear from the originator of Truth, Jesus Christ. My music brings a new perspective on God that reminds us He is more extraordinary and loving than we could ever imagine.”
