Ohhhh, chile! Cardi B is shaking things up one more ‘gain with the music video for her upbeat anthem “Up.” Fresh off the attention of her ring-the-alarm single “WAP,” Cardi B is all about that life and she doesn’t seem to care who’s bothered.
Her counterpart Megan Thee Stallion just dropped her video for “Cry Baby” on Thursday featuring the Houston rap star doing a choreographed version of her signature twerk. Cardi B’s video dropped hours later revealing the wife and mother of one engaging in a polyamory entanglement. She steps it up a level when she actually thrusts her tongue on the tongues of two ladies at the same time, giving porno vibes.
It’s appalling that despite all the talent and beauty Cardi B has what it still boils down to for female rappers in 2021 is who can be the most sexually exploited and vulgar. Still, the reasons for all the attention-seeking gimmicks is clearly to stay at the top of conversations and in the headlines — and just like a mice after cheese, we fall for it every time.
‘That publicity, rather bad or good, helps the artists sell music, merch, and tours. It’s a strategic move that’s understandable. However, where people get lost in the sauce is when the antics become so outrageous that one person tries to outdo the other person and it results in silly “the emperor has no clothes” scenarios. For instance, the big jewel that lays in the middle of Lil Uzi Vert’s forehead or the big fake gluteus maximus’ that look like fragile water balloons.
Meanwhile, the real are thinking, “Is anyone going to tell them?” Usually, no one does and it’s all because people don’t want to be judged for judging or they’re looking to be validated and included — hence, the brown nosing comments that come off as airhead toxic positivity.
All of the analytical thinking for oneself is in vain. As long as groupthink and sheeple exist, there will never be a real person in the room to say (in a Salt-N-Pepa voice) “That’s not it.” Yet, that’s quite okay. For everyone who is going to hate on the female rappers exploiting themselves, just ask yourself, if you came from where they came from would you do the same thing, too?
