Perception is everything when it comes to hip hop and one of the genre’s most legendary rappers can vouch for that. Bow Wow linked with Math Hoffa and crew on his New York based podcast to talk about the highs and lows of his record-breaking career.
During the conversation, Bow Wow addressed the allegations surrounding his addiction to cap (presenting false realities) on social media. When asked why he would fabricate using a jet for his daily travels, he admits that he doesn’t have an answer for the “stupid” things he has done.
He goes further to admit that he was “just flexin'” and “99% of these rappers lie about a lot of sh**, I just so happen to get caught that day.” Turns out that the Atlanta rapper was actually flying first-class on a commercial airline, which was exposed by online critics and was part of catapulting the Bow Wow Challenge, a viral sensation in which people spoofed Bow Wow by making up stories.
Bow Wow’s revelation highlights the concocted aesthetic that hip hop uses to convince fans of its financial superiority. The same ruse was poorly implemented by celebrities throughout the pandemic, causing a whirlwind of backlash during a time where the U.S. was dealing with economic instability and the onset of a recession.
In the transparent interview, Bow Wow opens up about his experiences among hip hop’s elite, navigating Hollywood as a successful actor, and his relationship with So So Def founder and CEO Jermaine Dupri. Clips of the full interview have been released on the Math Hoffa YouTube channel.
