YG Entertainment’s quartet girl group Blackpink dazzles in a colorful and cutesy music visual for their latest record topping song “Ice Cream.” Made up of Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé, Blackpink has rocked the music world as the highest-charting female K-pop group on the Billboard charts.
Now, linking up with Selena Gomez for the new fun single, the song is sure to help the group surpass any records broken before. The video was released on August 27 and has already amassed over 102 million views and nearly 10 million likes.
Trending at No. 1 on YouTube, the suggestive video shows the ladies having fun as they dance on a tennis cart, in classic cars and at an ice cream store. The women hold kitty cats in their cones and even dangle cherries in front of their faces, but at no time do they explicitly express exactly what the lyrics so cleverly communicate. There’s no overly revealing clothes or popping pelvics.
While some social media comments are borderline critical of the women implicitly promoting sex to children by using childlike props and playful colors in the video, this is not new to the most-subscribed female group on Spotify.
Their popularity has grown over the years as they fuse pop and hip hop over female empowering and confidence-building lyrics, giving them the platform to work with U.S. pop artists such as, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez.
The group recently released behind the scenes footage of the video shoot. In the footage, Blackpink seem to be having a blast as they feed a beaver and play a game of pong.
Selena Gomez filmed her scenes on a different set, but was able to speak to the group via video conference. In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, Blackpink said that teaming up with Selena Gomez seemed like a natural choice for the song given her music record.
Since the pandemic, the ladies have continuously been in the studio for the last two months. Blackpink is expecting to release their first Korean studio album on October 2.
