One of the richest men in the world is encouraging people to convert to other alternatives in consuming meat as a measure to prevent destructive climate change.
In Bill Gates new book, “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need,” released on Tuesday, the Microsoft co-founder discusses the impact of livestock on climate change. As livestock consumes product that may not always be natural or green, it produces gas in the animals during digestion. When the animals belch or pass gas the result is a release of methane emission. This, in turn, affects the atmosphere and can cause Mother Nature to become more intense as time goes on.
“I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef,” Gates said in an interview. “You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time. Eventually, that green premium is modest enough that you can sort of change the [behavior of] people or use regulation to totally shift the demand.”
Gates recommendations that mainly target wealthy countries has come with criticism from social media users who are doing everything to deflect from the fact that things must change. It’s not secret that the writing has been on the wall for a few years now.
Back in 1996, Oprah Winfrey attempted to warn people about the dangers of the beef and was ultimately paid back with a multi-million dollar lawsuit from members of the Texas beef industry. Over the years, celebrities such as, Billie Eilish, Russell Simmons, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé and Mya, to name a few, have promoted a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle for several reasons, including health, creativity, weight loss, and preserving animals.
Indeed, beef is not what it used to be. Any trip to the grocery store and it appears that meat is a little larger than normal and appears to be dyed. Who even knows what other chemicals are used to clean and preserve the meat. Plus, with meat taking longer to digest, some people are discovering more issues with tumors, cysts, fibroids, cancer and digestion.
Gates seems to be on to something — he certainly was several years ago when he hinted at the onset of a pandemic. Maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss him.
