Emmy-nominated host Baratunde Thurston launched his new podcast How To Citizen With Baratunde in partnership with iHeartRadio. The podcast began on August 19 with the episode “Introducing: How To Citizen with Baratunde.”
On How To Citizen With Baratunde, Baratunde “reimagines the word ‘citizen’ as a verb and reminds us how to wield our collective power.” Currently in the sixth episode, the podcast series has covered several topics pertaining to moving society towards self-governance and utilizing our power as a community.
Previous episodes include “Revolutionary Love is How to Citizen (with Valarie Kaur),” “Democracy Means People Power,” “Literally” (with Eric Liu), “Keeping Us Safe, Beyond Policing” (with Dr. Phil Goff & Zach Norris), “Feeding Ourselves Our Way” (with Chef José Andrés) and “Fight COVID with Everyone And Everything You Know” (With Danielle Allen and Dr. Amy Aminlari).
“Baratunde explores work—the value of our work, what it means, who it benefits, and how to shift the balance of power back to workers themselves,” a statement on the iHeart website reads. “Voting, while critically important, simply isn’t enough. It takes more to make this experiment in self-governance work.”
Thurston, who is a writer, activist and comedian, has produced for The Daily Show and worked for The Onion. He’s also a New York bestseller for his literary work How To Be Black. He serves as the executive producer and host of the podcast.
Distributed by the iHeartPodcast Network, the next episode, “Making Work Work For Everyone,” will be available on Thursday, Sept. 24. The podcast can be listened to on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or other popular podcast streaming platforms.
