Fans have been wondering what happened to radio personality Ms Juicy Baby after news broke that The Rickey Smiley Morning Show was moving from Atlanta to Dallas to replace the retiring Tom Joyner Morning Show.
The morning show made the shift to the Dallas station earlier this year after Tom Joyner announced he would be retiring from radio at the end of 2019.
The Little Women of Atlanta star was expected to join the show in Dallas, but appeared to no longer be a part of the crew. Ms Juicy Baby, born Shirlene King Pearson, finally addressed in a video released on social media why she has been missing in action.
“I was not offered a new contract to be on the new show,” she said in the video. “When I wasn’t offered a new contract to be on the new show my lawyers worked very hard, tried very hard to get them to offer something, anything and nothing was offered. So, at that time, I had to realize what my worth was. Was I going to continue to go on and work another 12 years — under the same terms? Or was I gonna move on?”
Apparently, the show was unwilling to negotiate new terms with Ms Juicy, despite her more than decade long service.
“That was a lesson learned. Because I know my worth and I know what God has for me is for me, I decided to move on. One thing I have learned, we can miss out on our blessings if we try to stay in a situation that were not meant to stay in or were only there for a season. You got to know when it’s your time, if you don’t know when it’s your time, if you don’t recognize it, you can miss out on your blessing.”
She turned in her resignation letter in December 2019. Ms Juicy said that the transition was bittersweet at first because she felt like all her hard work went out the window when she left the show. She even admitted that although most of her former co-workers reached out to her to check on her well-being after leaving, she didn’t hear from longtime co-worker and peer Gary With Da Tea.
Ms Juicy still is working, however. She revealed that she will be on Season 6 of reality show The Little Women of Atlanta and the upcoming season of scripted show Claws.
The Rickey Smiley Morning Show hosts include personality Gary With Da Tea, rapper Da Brat, model Eva Marcille, sports analyst Rock T and news correspondent Special K.
The show airs weekdays during the morning slot 5-9 a.m. CST on 70 Urban AC stations, including markets in Miami, Jacksonville and Orlando.
