The 2020 ASCAP Experience will be available online for free on a weekly basis starting May 28. The professional songwriters organization will be launching the ASCAP Experience: Home Edition series to provide information from some of the music industry’s most successful songwriters.
“To keep the craft and creation of music flowing, ASCAP is thrilled to offer ASCAP Experience: Home Edition, an innovative series of virtual educational programming presented at no cost, featuring top writers, producers, publishers and music experts who want to share their knowledge and advice for the greater good of music,” said the ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams. “If music creators have to stay home, then ASCAP wants to give them a way to stay informed, inspired and engaged so they can stay creative. I hope everyone joins us.”
Marking its 15th year, the original event was supposed to take place April 1-3 in Los Angeles, but had to redirect its program to a virtual platform to accommodate those impacted by COVID-19.
Grammy winning Jamaican artist Shaggy and his longtime manager Martin Kierszenbaum will host a conversation on the digital series.
Songwriter Priscilla Renea, who has written for Ariana Grande, Mary J. Blige, Madonna and Mariah Carey, will conduct a creative session called “Finding the ‘Aha!’ Moment.”
The digital series will also include a discussion with “Stuck with U” co-writers Gian Stone and Whitney Phillips breaking down the anatomy of a song.
The series will also include info sessions on PRO basic, work registration and pertinent topics in songwriting. The series will be held for three hours on Thursdays at 3 p.m. ET.
