Alix Lapri On Starz ‘Power’ Universe, “I Lived So Many Dreams, I Got To Kiss Girls”

Power fans were in for a special treat when The Crew Has It invited Alix Lapri onto the podcast to discuss some onscreen and behind-the-scene moments of the Starz crime drama.

Lapri plays opposite Michael Rainey Jr. as the up-and-coming queen pin, Effie Morales, on Power Book II: Ghost. On the series, Effie has a quite complicated relationship with Tariq (Rainey Jr.) that leads her to make some pretty empowering decisions. It seems that the same can be said of the actress behind the character.

The multi-talented actress is the type to text “Emergency” for Magic City wings and take 15-minute power naps (no pun intended) on set. In her spare time, she also sings. So, when the train of questions started rolling, The Crew Has It hosts, Gianni Paolo and Rainey Jr., seemed a bit flustered by Lapri’s presence and even more by her very transparent answers.

“What’s something that you want to do in the Power Universe — that you haven’t got to do?” Paolo asked Lapri.

Paolo was thinking along the lines of possibly having the Effie character crossover to Tommy’s world in Chicago. But, Lapri had something else in mind.

“You know what, I lived so many dreams, I got to kiss girls,” Lapri said. To which Paolo jokingly responded, “You got to kiss Michael, too. That’s my dream!”

After a bit of a giggling session, Lapri had an awesome follow up response.

“I think honestly, I want to continue dominating. I really like being dominant over men,” Lapri continued. “Because there’s just like, every time there’s a girl — especially in a male dominated field — such as something as professional as drug dealing, she always needs saving by a man. But, Effie doesn’t and that’s rare.”

“I would just really like to see her continue violence,” Lapri said. “I want to do more stunts and more fight scenes.”

When it comes to Lapri’s favorite Power character, she’s a big fan of Kanan, played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The episode surrounding Kanan’s death was also her favorite scene overall, but she also favors the “heist scene” and a scene that she had to lose 20 pounds for.

Lapri continued, “I think this was episode nine where she sneaks back in from killing Lauren and no words are said, but that’s one of my favorite scenes to this day because, first of all my body looked fire, thank you. I lost 20 pounds for that sh*t. But also, like, nothing was said, but so much was said. It gave me chills.”

Before entering the Power Universe, Lapri starred in BET’s Reed Between the Lines, television movie Downsized, the original Power, and Den of Thieves with Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and 50 Cent.

Season 3 of Power Book II: Ghost premieres Nov. 20, 2022 on Starz. The Crew Has It podcast is available on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.
