Afterpay has added a filter to their website that helps customers find online black owned retail businesses all in one place.
The online payment service has updated its website with a filter that exclusively promotes black owned businesses, such as Fenty Beauty By Rihanna, Wrap Life, Michael Cherry and EightyFiveEightySix, to name a few.
The new feature comes as worldwide protests have erupted combatting social injustice and inequality targeting black people.
While the Afterpay service is particularly useful with the slowdown of the economy and many customers are looking for alternative ways to shop, the products offered to customers are limited in the industries of fashion, beauty and body.
Some customers have expressed that they hope the list of retailers expand to include more health and fitness, literature, music and business products.
During these difficult financial times, Afterpay is the go-to online shopping platform for millennials and beyond that need time to pay off their bills.
“Millennials are tech savvy, informed and conscious about not falling into debt. Trust is really important to them,” founder Nick Molnar said. “They’re into budgeting and being responsible with their spending, but they also still want that instant gratification in retail.”
The payment service enables its customers to shop now and pay later. Customers that sign up can pay back the amount they owe in four installments without any interest and no additional fees when paid on time.
In other words, Afterpay is the new version of the secured credit card without the traditional restraints of qualifying. For black owned retailers, they can inquire about becoming a partner with Afterpay by going to the website.
Headquartered in Australia, serial entrepreneur Nick Molnar and Anthony Eisen founded Afterpay Holdings in 2014 as a form of online layaway. The mobile app came out in 2017, followed by the release of in-store offerings.
