Adrien Broner found himself in a rut when he was held in contempt of court and sent to jail on Monday.
The boxer pleaded with Judge Nancy Margaret Russo of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to help him understand how he could resolve an order to pay a $800,000 judgement resulting from a civil lawsuit in which he was accused of assaulting a woman at a Cleveland night club back in 2018.
When the judge questioned where he gets his money from, he responded, “I got rich friends. I got wealthy friends that take care of me.”
He admitted that he would give money away to his friends. Now, that he is in a financial bind, he claims that his friends send him money and he spends the money on bills.
Broner revealed that he didn’t understand the questions involved in the civil lawsuit and didn’t have proper representation to assist him through the paperwork.
“How do I do all of this, I don’t know how to do it,” Broner pleaded.
The judge wouldn’t relent to his pleas, however, and she sent the boxer to county jail after telling him to consult with a lawyer.
