Ahead of the final season of black-ish, Miles Brown and Marsai Martin sat down with ABC to watch a never-before-seen clip of the two actors auditioning for the role of the Johnson twins. The adorable audition brought tears to the now grown up fan favorites.
“It’s been so many emotions that have kind of gone through this whole entire series, it’s changed my life forever,” Brown said.
black-ish kicked off in 2014 and lasted for eight seasons as Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jenifer Lewis, Laurence Fishburne, Yara Shahidi, and Deon Cole, among others, created one of the most entertaining family shows on television during this era.
The sitcom followed Andre (Anderson) as he attempted to enrich his family with Black culture while raising his children in a upper-class, white community. Many described the series as a hybrid between 1990s family sitcoms The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Cosby Show. Created by Kenya Barris, the star-studded series is the recipient of several awards, including a Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe.
black-ish’s “Farewell Season” comes on the heels of Barris signing a head-turning contract with Netflix that empowers him to create content for the streaming giant. Anderson famously went on to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club to share that he didn’t want the show to end — this, contrary to what Ross was reportedly saying in her interviews.
Viewers can expect the series to be in syndication on ABC and available on Hulu.
“Thank you for riding with us, thank you for staying with us for the past eight years,” Martin said to viewers.
The final season of black-ish premieres Jan. 4 on ABC.
