Rapper turned podcaster Joe Budden is not above making fun of his recent incident with streaming platform Spotify. In a new commercial for his Joe Budden Podcast (JBP) titled “Life Can Change In A Second,” Budden is in the market for a new “big ass mansion,” that is until news breaks that he is no longer going to be working with Spotify.
Word spreads like wild fire that Budden lost a deal with Spotify after allegedly asking for $250 million in a contract renegotiation deal with the company. His co-podcaster Ian Schwartzman receives a call and is quick to communicate the headlining news to the entire JBP clique.
In a turn of events, the up and up team have to rethink all of their plans, including a house purchase, dice game and dinner for the night.
The commercial is a great way for Budden to make light of the controversial incident, while promoting the Joe Budden Network. A few weeks ago, Budden announced that his podcast would no longer be available on Spotify. He attributed the dismantling of the professional relationship to wanting to keep ownership of his brand.
Despite his dignified explanation, Budden’s decision became fodder for the hip hop industry when the Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne Tha God critiqued Budden’s negotiation tactics. Budden responded by telling listeners that the Power 105.1 host was not fighting the same fight.
The public verbal spat was followed by an attack on Budden’s character and a rehashing of his muddied past with allegations of drug abuse and domestic violence. Seeing the play from afar, Budden appears to be moving forward with plans to build his independent empire.
