News broke that rap star Cardi B filed for divorce from Migos rapper Offset after three years of marriage. The not-so-shocking news comes as rumors spread that Offset was allegedly still cheating on the Bronx beauty.
According to the filing, “there are no prospects for a reconciliation” and Cardi B is requesting “an equitable division of all marital assets.” She also wants full custody of her child and for Offset to pay child support and legal expenses on her behalf. The couple is currently separated.
This is not the first time Cardi B threatened to leave Offset. In 2018, the father of her daughter, Kulture, was allegedly caught cheating with an Instagram model. Then, there were accusations by the mother of one of his other children that he attempted to have relations with her while he was in a relationship with Cardi B.
Cardi B recently celebrated the success of her No. 1 single “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion. She has also been at the top of the news because of an ongoing public spat with the very opinionated Republican speaking head Candace Owens.
Fans are expecting a new album from the “Get Up 10” rapper, so many online spectators are claiming that she is filing for divorce as a PR stunt to promote her upcoming album. It sounds like some people are in denial.
As hard as men in the hip hop world try, it appears that monogamy, faithfulness and at the least, loyalty, are too difficult to grasp, which is why it’s all the more baffling that rappers continuously engage in the same traditions, such as marriage, of a working class man with less options.
Is it because deep down inside rappers want someone real to hold them down in the long-term? Yet, the pressure from hip hop to have multiple b—–s, be promiscuous and to suppress emotions have young males making poor decisions that most likely will end up being a headache later.
For instance, the trend of males having multiple babies with multiple women is one example of how the misuse and misunderstanding of hip hop culture have these men thinking that stupidity is cool. That is until reality hits and they’re dealing with the consequences of court dates, child support and uncouth mothers.
These misguided and dysfunctional behaviors do not represent the true origins of hip hop or black culture. But, somewhere down the line someone made it trendy, just like Cardi B made “WAP” trendy.
So, the lesson of the day is that these rappers are not being honest. These opportunists are cappin’ for clout and capitalism. That ain’t real. They’re not keeping it 100! We would be hard pressed to find a young, faithful rapper. It would be an anomaly.
To make things fair, however, the WAP can only maintain a relationship for so long, then you will really have to turn water into wine to make a rap-influenced male “act right.” Like I always say, you would have to wait for a “hip hop male” to get fat, old or tired before he actually matured enough to handle a real woman. By then, he would have no more chase in him or his confidence would be so shot that he would no longer think he got it like that to get with women. The truth hurts.
The disclaimer, this only applies to males that worship hip hop like it’s a religion but don’t have the good sense to know that rap songs are action movies. It’s not real and these men shouldn’t be out here pretending like their the lead actor of fantasy-filled hip hop narratives. #Sheesh
