Fred the Godson, who has been battling COVID-19, died on Thursday. The Bronx rapper was 35 years old.
Fred the Godson revealed that he had contracted the virus and was in the hospital on April 6. He was placed on a ventilator and his condition appeared to improve. Before he contracted the virus, he had posted a photo of himself wearing protective face mask. But, still got the virus.
The rapper was a pick for XXL’S 2011 Freshman Class and shared a cover with the likes of Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Big K.R.I.T., YG and Lil B.
His rap career took off when he released the 2010 mixtape Armageddon. He would follow up with the 2011 mixtape City of God. His discography would also include 2017’s Gordo, 2019’s God Level, 2020’s Training Day and his last project Payback. To date, he has never signed to a major label.
Friends of the rapper are paying tribute to the him on social media. French Montana said, “Rest in peace @FredTheGodsonMusic damn this is wack! Stay home corona is real.”
His close friend Jaquae said, “Sleep in peace my brother…You’ll never be forgotten. Love U Man.”
