Tennis Icon Serena Williams was in a boss mood when she debuted the Spring 2020 collection of her clothing line S by Serena at New York Fashion Week on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
In an all-black ensemble, Williams sat down with Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour to discuss her love for fashion and showcase her new line, which went live on www.SerenaWilliams.com.
“Yesterday, I was so excited about my epic fireside chat with Anna Wintour for my #NYFW show. I wanted to showcase the @Serena collection, talk about the inspiration behind the line and debut @SerenaWilliamsJewelry on the runway. I also wanted to share why investing in women with @SerenaVentures is so important to me. I presented this collection in a new way, and it wouldn’t be possible without entire S by Serena team.”
The Spring collection includes leather blazers, geometric designed sweaters and dresses, a classic black dress and all-black mesh jumpsuit. The direct-to-consumer line has prices ranging from $64-$149.
Championing the motto #BeSeenBeHeard, S by Serena is the unapologetic celebration and empowerment of women through clothes that exemplify their “inherent greatness” and prowess.
Known for her daring outfits on the tennis court, Williams has been into fashion since 2000 when she went to fashion school.
“I’m trying things out — sometimes, they are a miss. But that’s okay. I think it’s so fun, to have fun with fashion. In my sport, I have a great opportunity to play in something really wild and really fun, and really express myself. Sometimes, people only see me on the court. That’s where I’m like, ‘This is me. I love fashion. This is what I want to do. This is how I want to express myself.'”
To her, hard work and dedication is the only way to success. She admits that she puts in the same amount of work into fashion that she does into playing tennis.
“It takes a lot of work, in everything that you do. It takes a lot of work and dedication. I know that sounds classic and redundant, but it’s true. I can’t stress that enough. There’s [that saying], the 100,000 hours you have to do. It took that for me to be the best tennis player in the world.”
