Comedy Central’s Awkwafina is Nora From Queens made a big impression on TV audiences with its premiere on Jan. 22.
The ViacomCBS network reports that 3.8 million viewers watched the premiere across platforms.
The series premiere pulled in a total of 2.2 million viewers via simulcasts and replays, along with 1.6 million on YouTube, according to the reported Live+Three day results.
The pilot episode is now available free on YouTube.
The half-hour comedy brings the biggest viewership for the network in the last three years.
Asian American viewers were the main supporters of the show as their viewership on the network more than doubled, landing a 155% gain.
Female viewers also had a presence in viewership increasing the network’s female audience by 100%.
Created by and starring Golden Globe winner Awkwafina, Awkwafina is Nora From Queens follows the comedic story of Nora Lin who is navigating the streets of the Flushing neighborhood in Queens, New York with the help of her father and feisty grandmother.
Partly based on her life, Awkwafina delivers outstanding storytelling that is raw and so real that you can’t help but laugh. Other actors include Lori Tan Chinn as Grandma, BD Wong as the father Wally and Jennifer Esposito as Brenda.
Awkwafina is Nora From Queens is executive produced by Awkwafina, Karey Dornetto, Teresa Hsiao and Peter Principato.
Kat Westergaard is credited with the cinematography, while Cody Beke and Seth White are casting directors for the series.
The series airs on Wednesdays at 9:30c on Comedy Central.
