Solange is the definition of an artist that really puts thought into her art.
Solange defies gravity again with her latest contribution to the performance art world. The Houston-bred entertainer released a 41 minute, 20 second visual presentation of her music from her album When I Get Home.
The music video is an extended director’s cut and it features some very nostalgic shots of Htown.
Incredibly earthy and thoughtful, Solange clearly has a diehard love for her hometown. Remnants of southern lifestyle and black culture merge with visually pleasing and symbolic imagery.
The video shows black women in blonde wigs, front yard inflatable pools, and a new age rodeo. There’s even a transition into an animated virtual reality world towards the end of the video.
Then, there’s Solange. Fierce, determined and confident, she embraces the frames lamenting in her beautiful skin, whilst wearing a cowboy hat.
Solange is like a hybrid of Angela Rye and Diana Ross. Her beauty is complemented by her true-to-self nourishing spirit.
When I Get Home (Director’s Cut) is a truly visionary experience with a very direct message about being black in the south.
