‘Girls Trip’ Sequel Confirmed, Set To Take Place At Ghana Festival

Tracy Oliver has confirmed that a sequel to Girls Trip is in the works.  The multi-hyphen creative penned the original screenplay that eventually recruited a star-studded cast, including Regina Hall, Jada Pickett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, and Queen Latifah.

“I do have a definitive Girls Trip 2 update,” Oliver said.  “That is officially happening.  Everyone is coming back.”

The revelation was made during an interview with Variety Studio Presented by Audible at Sundance while Oliver and cast members of Harlem discussed the second season of the hit Prime Video series.

Oliver added that the BFF sequel will take place on a new continent, Africa, in the country of Ghana.  The focus will be on the four friends attending the popular Afrochella festival.

The theme of filming during festivals is becoming a tradition for the Girls Trip franchise — the 2017 version took place at the annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana.  To date, the Universal Pictures film has amassed $140.6 worldwide.

Will Packer will return as executive producer, along with Malcolm D. Lee, who will be directing the sequel. Further plot details are unknown.
