Chris Rock Announces New Comedy Special, ‘Selective Outrage,’ To Premiere LIVE On Netflix

It must be the Brooklyn in him because Chris Rock has made it very clear that his legacy is here to stay.  The veteran comedian, host, and actor is returning to the idiot-turned-smart box with a new comedy special on Netflix.  Rock will be one of the first to headline Netflix’s new outlet of global live streaming called LIVE on Netflix with his stand-up, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage — quite the title!

The pioneering content streamer made the announcement with the release of a 44-second teaser showing a determined Rock staring directly into the camera.  The special will capture Rock doing a live performance in Baltimore, Maryland.

Netflix has been strategizing on a way to mitigate the stalling of subscriptions amid price hikes and insatiable demand for content.  Comedy specials and other unscripted content will be used as testing grounds for the streamer’s live capability, which follows in the footsteps of Hulu and Prime Video.

Rock’s comedy special follows his 2018 entry Tambourine and his Ego Death World Tour, where he briefly addressed the “slap heard around the world.”  While Rock had been pretty mum about the Oscar incident, it is highly anticipated that he will be more vocal about it in the new Netflix special, calling for a great marketing scheme to attract viewers.

Clearly, Rock knows how to hustle and is capitalizing off of this year’s echoing of his name in headlines.  Case in point, in addition to the Christmas Day announcement of Selective Outrage, more dates have also been added to his tour, including stops in New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee at the start of 2023.  Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com.

Isn’t that a genius way to turn lemons into lemonade?

Chris Rock: Selective Outrage streams March 4th on Netflix.
