On the tragic heels of the harrowing case of North Carolina resident Shanquella Robinson, a young woman who mysteriously died while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with a group of friends, comes the film ‘Missing,’ starring Storm Reid, Nia Long, Joaquim de Almeida, Ken Leung, Amy Landecker, and Daniel Henney.
The synopsis reads, “When her mother (Nia Long) disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, June’s (Storm Reid) search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try to find her before it’s too late. But as she digs deeper, her digital sleuthing raises more questions than answers, unraveling secrets about her mom, she discovers that she never really knew her at all.”
Will Merrick and Nick Johnson co-direct the story by Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty. Chaganty directed ‘Searching,’ the origin film that ‘Missing’ is derived from. The two films connect in a continuing saga that highlights a series of fictional missing person cases.
‘Searching’ starred John Cho, Debra Messing, and Joseph Lee and followed David Kim (John Cho) as he attempts to piece together clues from social media in order to find his missing 16-year-old daughter. The original screenplay was penned by Chaganty and Ohanian.
Producers include Natalie Qasabian, Ohanian, and Chaganty. Executive producers include Timur Bekmambetov, Adam Sidman, and Jo Henriquez.
‘Missing’ is set to release in theaters on January 20, 2023.
