Hip hop has lost another brother. Takeoff, one-third of the Atlanta rap trio Migos, was shot and killed early on Tuesday morning. He was only 28.
The “Bad and Boujee” rapper was with his uncle and Migos member, Quavo, when they visited the 810 Billiards & Bowling spot in Houston, Texas. While people conjugated outside of the bowling alley, an altercation during a dice game allegedly broke out and multiple shots were fired around 2:35 AM CST, according to reports from local authorities.
Takeoff, born Kirsnik Khari Ball, was reportedly shot near “the neck or head,” causing significant blood loss. Photos and audio obtained by TMZ reveal that there were several witnesses present as he died at the scene with Quavo by his side as he took his last breath. The bowling alley was closed at the time of the shooting.
Two other people were also shot in the unfortunate incident and were apparently taken to the hospital in their personal vehicles. At the time of this report, the condition of the two victims has not been disclosed. The persons responsible for the shooting have yet to be identified and there have not been any arrests.
Hours before the incident, Quavo and Takeoff were seen in town celebrating the birthday of Jas Prince, the son of Houston music legend and Rap-A-Lot founder J Prince. Ironically, Takeoff took a photo outside of the bowling alley, captioned with ”Stop Breathing” by Playboi Carti, moments before he was killed. Other photos of a private party that Takeoff and Quavo attended are circulating on social media.
The newly created duo had just released their album, Only Built For Infinity Links, on Oct. 7 under the label Quality Control Music.
Offset, the missing link, had previously experienced contention with Quavo and Takeoff, eventually going solo and disassociating from Quality Control, a process that has been documented over the past year through interviews, subliminal messages in the music, and a confrontational incident between Offset and Lil Baby’s entourage.
Before the fame and money broke the Migos up, the award-winning trio won the hearts of many with their slightly Gucci Mane inspired hits, such as “Versace,” “Handsome and Wealthy,” “Rich Than Famous,” and “Hannah Montana,” to name a few. Rest in peace to Takeoff and condolences to his family and inner circle.
