One of the best albums of the last year will not be considered for nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Bruno Mars, one-half of the R&B duo Silk Sonic, confirmed to Rolling Stones that their latest effort, An Evening With Silk Sonic, will not be submitted for consideration at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” Mars told Rolling Stone. “We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”
An Evening With Silk Sonic, released in Nov. 2021, led with the single “Leave The Door Open” to critical acclaim. The song took home several awards from the 2022 Grammy Awards ceremony that took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 3.
The duo won “Best R&B Song,” “Record of the Year,” and “Song of the Year” for “Leave The Door Open,” while tying with Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings” for “Best R&B Performance.”
“Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake,” Mars continued. “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform — not once but twice — and awarding us at last year’s ceremony. We’d be crazy to ask for anything more. Thank you to everyone that supported this project and championed it.”
Silk Sonic, a collaborative and experimental soul duo consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak., made their debut in 2021 with a collection of hit singles, including “Leave The Door Open,” “777,” and “Love Train.” In the midst of the world shutting down between 2020 and 2022, the duo managed to create the 10-track album, An Evening with Silk Sonic, a 36-minute R&B throwback experience that inspired some epic live performances from Mars and .Paak.
