Tragedy hits the Atlanta music scene once again. Metro Boomin, the mega hip hop producer who has made hits with Future, Young Thug, and Gunna, suffered the loss of his mother in a murder-suicide incident at the hands of her partner, which some reports claim is her husband.
Police discovered the body of Leslie Joanne Wayne on Friday (June 3) outside of Atlanta in what is being reported as domestic violence that escalated to murder. Her partner, who has yet to be identified but is not the biological father of Metro Boomin, then allegedly took his own life.
It is well-known that Metro Boomin, birth name Leland Tyler Wayne, was very close to his mother, calling her his “biggest inspiration.” He credits her for jump starting his career early on during his childhood in St. Louis. His mother would travel over eight hours to Atlanta with Metro Boomin so that he could do business within the bubbling music scene.
Over the years, Metro Boomin has established himself as one of the premier, go-to producers for the most successful rappers, including 21 Savage, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, and Kanye West. Some of his most recognizable productions are the gold and multi-platinum singles “Bad and Boujee” with the Migos, “Jumpman” with Drake and Future, “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” with Kanye, “Congratulations” with Post Malone, and “Hercules” with Young Thug.
The investigation is ongoing as an official cause of death has yet to be released. Condolences to Metro Boomin, his family, and everyone in the Atlanta hip hop scene that’s going through it right now.
