The Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion saga is proving to be the romance version of the West Coast, East Coast beef of the 1990s. For the last two years, petty back and forth digs have ensued through the former friends’ music.
On the cusp of Megan doing an interview on the shooting incident that occurred in 2020, the Roc Nation signee dropped a “whoa” single that many are speculating is a subliminal diss track towards Lanez. “Plan B” is a near three-minute merciless, female empowering, male-hating declaration. Honestly, it’s a perfect level-up song for those dealing with “F-boys.”
Not too long after the release of Megan’s song, Lanez dropped the official music video for his song “I Like” as a part of his Fargo Fridays.
Directed by Sam Brave and edited by Lanez, the video doesn’t exactly match the lyrics. Instead of following the exact description provided in “I Like,” Lanez opts to show three women on a mission for revenge.
Aware that Lanez is playing one of the ladies, they execute a drive-by shooting while Lanez is engaged in an intimate affair.
Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, is under fire for allegedly shooting a semiautomatic 9mm firearm from a black Cadillac Escalade towards Megan as she left the vehicle, causing bullet fragments to hit her feet back in July 2020 after the two retreated from a party at Kylie Jenner’s house.
Since then, both sides of the case have caused speculation with social media running away with false narratives and misinformation via leaked details from Lanez, Megan, and Megan’s friend, Kelsey Harris, who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
In Early April 2022, Los Angeles judge, David Herriford, found Lanez violated a protective order that was in place, causing Lanez to be detained and ordered to pay a $350,000 bail. A tweet from DJ Akademiks sparked the arrest when the YouTuber revealed that the rap star’s DNA was not found on the gun. Later, he would correct himself saying that the results were inconclusive — details that were specifically revealed in discovery.
Lanez is not to make any contact with Megan, real name Megan Pete, or reference her or the trial on any social media platform. A court date is arranged for June 9, 2022, while a trial with a jury is tentatively set to take place on Sept. 14, 2022.
